Covid-19 Vaccine Registration for 18+ Years in India

With the spike in the cases of COVID 19 across the country, the central government has now announced that people above 18 years of age are also eligible for Corona Vaccine under the “liberalised and accelerated” phase 3 strategy of vaccination. The program will be rolled out from 1st May 2021. Covid-19 Vaccine would be available for free for everyone at all the government COVID vaccination centres. However, private hospitals can ‘’transparently declare their self-set vaccination price’’.

Earlier, people above 45 years of age were only eligible for Corona Virus Vaccine. By now, more than 12.38 crore people have been administered Corona Vaccine in India. In India, there are two types of vaccines- ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’. However, one cannot choose between two vaccines. Both the Coronavirus Vaccinations requires two jabs at the interval of 4 to 8 weeks.

In order to get a Vaccine, adults have to register at the official website of CoWIN – cowin.gov.in.

Guide on How to Register On CoWIN Portal:

Online registration is a must for 18 to 45 years people to get Covid vaccine. Here we have provided a step by step guide of how people above 18 can register for the Covid-19 Vaccine.

Step 1 – Visit CoWIN or download the app and complete the log-in process.
Or,
Download Aarogya Setu app, which has been integrated with the CoWIN portal, and register under Vaccination tab of the app.

Step 2 – Enter your mobile number, and soon you will receive OTP on the same number.

Step 3 – Click on VERIFY button and enter your OTP.

Step 4 – You would be then routed to the Registration for Vaccination page.

Step 5 – On this page, provide all the details asked, such as an address, ID proof etc. Subsequently, tick mark on YES when it asks about the comorbidities.

Step 6 – Now you will receive a confirmation on the provided mobile number.

Step 7 – Select time and day for the vaccination.

Required Documents for Registration:

During the registration process, you would require to fill in personal information, including photo ID proof and photo ID number, for which you should have any of the following documents.

  • Voter ID
  • PAN Card
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Health Insurance Smart Card issued under by Ministry of Labour
  • Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Job Card
  • Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
  • Pension Document
  • Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
  • Passbooks issued by Bank/Post Office

Recent Update about Covid-19 Vaccine Registration

  • The registration would start from 28th April 2021 onwards.
  • Vaccinations would be available at government centres free of costs for people above 45 years.
  • According to latest Hindustan Times news, the vaccination would be available free of costs for 18 to 45 years people in government centres of only 17 states that include Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand.

Covaxin Vaccine

Covaxin is the first indigenous Vaccine in India for Coronavirus. It is developed by the Bharat Biotech, Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology. This vaccine has inactivated form of the virus and inhibits the growth and spread of the virus in the body. It also increases the immunity system of humans, which further helps to fight back with the deadly virus.

Covishield Vaccine

This Vaccine has been developed by Oxford University, and AstraZeneca and Serum Institute of India has manufactured it. Covishield Vaccine has adenovirus-common cold virus. It strengthens the immunity system.

The possible adverse of this vaccine are:

  • Injection site tenderness.
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Pyrexia
  • Chills
  • Arthralgia
  • Nausea

Comorbidities Prioritised Under COVID-19 Vaccination Drive

Though anyone above 18 can get vaccinated, however, people with the following health problems should take the jab without delay.

  • Cardiovascular problems such as Coronary Artery Disease, Angina and Hypertension
  • End-stage Kidney Disease on haemodialysis
  • Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases
  • Diabetics

Note – Pregnant, and breastfeeding mothers should consult their obstetrician for COVID-19 vaccination.

  • All the CGHS-empanelled hospitals that are used by UTs/States
  • Ayushman Bharat PMJAY-empanelled hospitals

The second wave of Coronavirus is more dangerous than the first wave. Each day more than 2 lakh cases of COVID are reported. In order to fight back against the pandemic, the central government will soon roll out its liberalised and accelerated” phase 3 strategy of vaccination under which people aged 18 or above can now be inoculated. Eligible beneficiaries can register themselves at the official website of CoWIN for the coronavirus vaccine. In addition, the vaccination would decrease the chances of COVID. One should follow all the hygiene related guidelines which includes wearing N 95 masks and using sanitizers.
