The scientific name of Dalchini is -Cinnamomum zeylanicun (indigenous to Sri Lanka), Cinnamomum verum.

How is Dalchini Extracted?

  • To extract Dalchini, it is important that the stems are processed while the inner branches are still wet. Thus, the process of extraction needs to be done as soon as the plant is harvested.
  • The outer bark of the stem is scrapped and then the stem is hammered evenly to loosen the inner bark. The hammered bark is then rolled into long rolls. The rolled barks are then dried and within 4 to 6 hours they are ready.
  • The dry barks are then cut into 5 cm to 10 cm long sticks. These sticks are then they are packed to be sold in the market.
